Services

Orchard View Sport horses is proud to begin offering our experienced staff and our facilities to the public. We will continue maintain the small, private, family-owned atmosphere integral to our business model so we can dedicate our energies and our time to your mare or foal's individual needs. In 2007, we will be offering the following services to the public:

MareCare: OVS provides mares with a unique choice of environments in which to foal out, and maintains a tranquil, peaceful setting with large foaling stalls deep bedded with premium straw, adjoining fescue-free grass paddocks, and 24 hour monitoring and foal watch. We check vitals and foaling indications 2x a day, feed 4x a day for the pre-parturient and post-parturient mare with Premium feed and free-choice Premium hay, among other pampering and Pre/Post foaling necessities both for the maiden mare and the multi-para mare in preparation for her imminent foaling experience.

Foaling: Foalings are always attended, and mares are assisted when necessary while remaining respectful and nurturing their natural maternal instincts. We do imprint the foals while remaining respectful of the mare's maternal drive.  Once the foal is born, and mares are able, mares are encouraged to nurse their new foals. Foals are monitored closely with hourly checks for the first 12 hours, then slowly decreasing to ensure adequate nursing, bonding, navel iodine/chlorhexadine, etc. Call for rates and availability for our new foaling facility.

Weaning: MareHaus also provides a safe, experienced environment in which to wean your foal. Foals are “paired up” with a buddy for weaning so the loss is not so drastic for them, and they are able to begin herd life on their own more readily. Weaning is a very important time to provide your foal with the skills necessary to tackle tasks on his/her own with confidence, capability, and with trust in his/her human herd leader for the rest of his/her life. We take this opportunity to instill and ingrain these vital philosophies into your foal during the weaning time. A pre-school for foals, foals weaned at MareHaus are also taught basic ground manners, farrier and vet etiquette, leading, and tying, as well as beginning personal space concepts and yield to pressure off the side and the ever-important "back" concept. Call for rates and weaning school times.

Foal Kindergarten: OVS has had several judges and others comment very positively on the manners and behavior of our foals, yearlings, and stallions. So, as part of MareHaus we have decided to offer clients a Kindergarten program as a supplement to our pre-school program implemented during Weaning. The Kindergarten program builds on the pre-school’s basic ground manners, and takes the next step into bathing, braiding/standing for braiding, clipping, leading at the walk, trot, whoa, and back, how to trot for in hand showing at Hunters or USDF, and loading/trailering. We keep our lessons very short and allow lots of rest and play in between them to keep it enjoyable and fun for the foals and to eliminate resistance. Working at least two times a day with your foal during this 3 week program, we instill a clear understanding at an early age of life as a show horse and expose him/her to everything necessary to function efficiently in today’s competitive show scene. We also provide consulting on foal training or actual foal training by traveling to your site on an as needed basis or to correct naughty foal behavior. Call for rates and availability.

Foal/Yearling Show/Sales Prep: Foals and Yearlings destined for the in-hand show ring or sales pen can also be managed here at MareHaus. Our foal/yearling show/sale prep includes premium feed and hay, as well as daily grooming, preparation for the show ring or sales pen, hand exercising, if necessary, and regular worming. Show day/sales day prep for one show/sale is included (additional at extra charge) and includes bathing, mane pulling if requested, clipping, tail trimming and pulling if necessary, pre-show worming, and pre-show bumper in training, as well as handling on the show grounds (not in the ring). Braiding, Groom, and Ring Presentation charges at the show/sale are extra. Call for rates and availability.

Sales Advertising Package:  This is an add on to the Foal/Yearling Show/Sales Prep or may be purchased seperate for any age horse with travel to your farm.  This package includes advertising and design services for your Horse that you will be putting up for sale.  Our package includes the design of 1 flyer, 1 brochure, 1 internet ad, 1 magazine ad (concept) and we will take photos and produce a short video for prospective buyers.

Breeding Consulting & Stallion Matching. With 100% Premium foals out of our breeding program to date we are now offering our unique approach to analyzing mares’ strengths and weaknesses, and matching them with an appropriate stallion based upon criteria set by the mare’s owner for the foal’s ultimate use. With SO many stallions to choose from, it helps to have a professional analysis of your mare with 3-5 suggestions of stallions who might be a good match for your mare. We can analyze by photo and provide recommendations by photo, however to provide a full analysis with recommendations it is best that we meet the mare. Since with many of our clients this may not be possible, we do offer a reduced fee for photo analysis with stallion matching and for our temperament and movement section will place the owner’s analysis of temperament and movement. Mares are analyzed based on conformation, temperament, movement, bloodlines, progeny, and type, and a full written report is given.
